Why Should I Join?

Anyone who owns a Standardbred horse racing in the Province of Ontario can benefit from joining SHOP.

SHOP is a legally incorporated not-for-profit group of dedicated men and women who currently own racing horses and participate in the Standardbred industry. The formation of this organization was founded on a mandate to address issues of integrity in the sport and demonstrate their commitment by assuming greater owner responsibility for the actions of their trainers and horses.

Membership in SHOP shows a person’s willingness to be part of a unique group of individuals who have the best interests of the sport at heart. The strength of this group will form a new voice to be heard in the rules and decision making processes of the industry.

SHOP members will benefit from the sharing of similar views with some of the best known and prominent people in racing today.

SHOP members will be informed and kept up to date on the latest rule changes and rulings by the Ontario Racing Commission. Already SHOP has sent representatives to give evidence of our mandate at an important Commission hearing.

SHOP members will have the satisfaction of knowing that their approach to integrity will ultimately protect the horses themselves from the abuses of performance enhancing substances and promote the future of the sport in the eyes of the public at large.
